Germania Horbach (officially: Sportverein Germania Horbach 1911 eV ) is a sports club from Freigericht in the Main-Kinzig district . The first soccer team played for a year in the then fourth-class Oberliga Hessen .

history

The club was founded in 1911 as the gymnastics and sports association Horbach and was called sports club Germania Horbach from around 1945 . For decades, the footballers played in local leagues before the club began to skyrocket in sport in the 1990s. Responsible for this was the club's chairman Heinrich Remmel, who supported the club financially and signed players from home and abroad. After three ascents in a row, Germania rose to the Landesliga Hessen-Süd in 1998 , where the team was runner-up behind the second team from Kickers Offenbach .

Since the regulations of the Hessian Football Association at the time stipulated that the runner-up in a regional league championship also promoted a second team, the Horbachers achieved their fourth consecutive promotion. In the league season 1999/2000 , the team around midfielder Tomas Oral was tenth. Despite the sporting league, the club voluntarily withdrew into the district league and two years later rose from the district league. After Germania had meanwhile returned to the group league Frankfurt-Ost , the club was relegated from this in 2010 and has been in the district league A Gelnhausen since 2012 .
