Gernot Klepper

Gernot Klepper (* 1951 in Germany ) is a German economist and head of the research department “Environmental and Resource Economics” at the Institute for World Economy at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel.

Scientific career

Gernot Klepper graduated from 1971 to 1977, the study of economics at the University of Heidelberg and graduated with a diploma from. Until 1979 he studied agricultural sciences at the University of Kentucky , USA , building on his previous studies . From 1979 to 1981 he was employed as a research assistant at the South Asia Institute at Heidelberg University. 1981 to 1983 he earned his doctorate in agriculture at the University of Kentucky as part of a doctoral scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation. Between 1983 and 1984 he was a research assistant at the Chair for Economics and Economic Theory at the University of Mannheim and has been a research assistant at the Institute for World Economy at the University of Kiel since 1984 . From 1988 to 1994 he was a research fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London , UK . Between 1995 and 2005 he was the head of the research department "Environmental and Resource Economics" at the Institute for World Economy at the University of Kiel. Since 1999 he has also been a member of the college of the "European Academy for Research into the Consequences of Scientific and Technical Developments, Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler GmbH". Since 2009 he has been Deputy Chairman of ISCC eV (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) and Deputy Chairman of the German Climate Consortium (DKK). Since 2006 he has been one of the original 17 Principal Investigators of the Future Oceans Excellence Cluster .
