Gertrud Haemmerli-Schindler

Gertrud Haemmerli-Schindler (born September 7, 1893 in Zurich ; died March 17, 1978 there ) was a Swiss women's rights activist .

Life

She was the daughter of Samuel Dietrich Schindler. In 1921 she married the doctor Theodor Haemmerli. She also went on language trips and trained as a nurse .

In 1932 she founded the Mütterhilfe association, which ran the first pregnancy counseling center in Zurich . From 1934 to 1947 she was President of the Zurich Section of the Swiss Nursing Association. In 1939 she participated in the establishment and development of the civil women's service (FHD) in the canton of Zurich . From 1940 to 1945 she was a member of the Federal FHD Commission and from 1942 to 1946 President of the Swiss FHD. After the end of the war, she also headed the "Swiss women for starving children and mothers" relief operation.

From 1947 to 1954 she was president of the women's headquarters in Zurich and from 1949 to 1955 she was also president of the Federation of Swiss Women's Associations (BSF). She represented the BSF in the Federal Commissions for Air Protection and Trade Policy. From 1949 to 1955 she was a member of the management of the Swiss Red Cross , from 1954 to 1957 she was vice-president of the Swiss Confederation for Civil Protection (SBZ). In 1958 she helped organize the Second Swiss Exhibition for Women's Work .
