from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gertrud von Babenberg (* approx. 1210/15; † 1241 ) was Landgravine of Thuringia.

She was the daughter of Duke Leopold VI. from Austria and Styria and his Byzantine wife Theodora Angeloi . Gertrud was one of seven children, her brother was Frederick II of Austria and her sister Margarethe became the wife of the German heir to the throne Henry VII and first wife of the Bohemian King Ottokar II Přemysl .

In 1238 she was married to Heinrich Raspe , Landgrave of Thuringia and later German rival king, after his first wife Elisabeth of Brandenburg had died seven years earlier after three years of childless marriage. However, Gertrud also died three years after their marriage. After Heinrich's third marriage with Beatrix von Brabant remained childless, Heinrich enfeoffed his nephew Heinrich , the son of his sister Jutta, with the Landgraviate of Thuringia.
