Beatrix von Brabant (* 1225 ; † 1288 ) was Landgrave of Thuringia and German Queen from 1246 to 1247.

Life

Beatrix von Brabant was born as the daughter of Duke Heinrich II of Brabant and Lower Lorraine and his wife Maria von Staufen, daughter of the German King Philip of Swabia . She was one of six children: her brother was Heinrich III. from Brabant. Her sister Maria was executed by her husband Ludwig the Strict , Duke of Upper Bavaria, on suspicion of infidelity.

On March 10, 1241, Beatrix of Brabant was married to Heinrich Raspe , Landgrave of Thuringia and from 1246 German rival king. In the meantime, Heinrich Raspe's niece Sophie of Thuringia , who was a year older than Beatrix, married her father, Heinrich II of Brabant, and thus became Duchess of Brabant and ancestral mother of the House of Hesse.

Heinrich Raspe's first two wives Elisabeth von Brandenburg and Gertrud von Babenberg both died after three years of childless marriage. This third marriage of Heinrich also remained childless. He died in 1247 and enfeoffed his nephew Heinrich , the son of his sister Jutta, with the Landgraviate of Thuringia.

In the same year, in November 1247, Beatrix married Wilhelm II , Count of Flanders and Lord of Dampierre. This marriage also remained childless and lasted only a short time, since Wilhelm died on June 6, 1251. Beatrix survived her second husband by 37 years.
