Henry III. The Kind (* around 1231; † February 28, 1261 in Leuven ) was Duke of Brabant from 1248 to 1261. He was the son of Duke Heinrich II and Maria von Staufen .

Act

He made his first experiences as a soldier at the side of his relative, the German anti-king Wilhelm von Holland , at whose coronation on November 1, 1248 in Aachen he took part. In the Flemish War of Succession, however, he did not support him, although Wilhelm's son and brother-in-law were involved in this dispute. Instead, he allied himself with Wilhelm von Dampierre , Count of Flanders , whose sister he then married. On the other hand, he tried to keep peace in the old Lower Lorraine , which he succeeded in spite of the hostilities of the Dampierres and the Avesnes as well as the turmoil that followed the death of Wilhelm of Holland with the Interregnum . On his deathbed, he signed a charter in 1261 that granted his subjects greater liberties.

progeny

In 1251 he married Adelheid von Burgund (1233–1273), daughter of Hugo IV , Duke of Burgundy ( Elder House of Burgundy ), and Jolande von Dreux. Your children were:
