Duke of Aarschot

Duke of Aarschot (French: Duc d'Aarschot , also written Assot and Aerschot and referring to the then Dutch and now Belgian municipality of Aarschot ), is a title of nobility, the Emperor Charles V , after the creation of the title of Margrave of Aarschot (French : Marquis d'Aarschot ) in November 1519 for Guillaume II. De Croÿ , in April 1, 1534 to his nephew Philippe II. De Croÿ . Since both happened in his capacity as King of Spain , they are not titles of the Holy Roman Empire .

With the death of Charles III. de Croÿs 1612 and his sister Anne de Croÿ 1635, the title passed to the Ligne branch of the House of Arenberg . The current title holder is Léopold von Arenberg, 13th Duke of Arenberg and 19th Duke of Aarschot.
