Philippe II de Croÿ

Philippe II. De Croÿ (* 1496 ; † April 1549 in Brussels ) from the House of Croy was the first Duke of Aarschot . He was the eldest son of Henri de Croÿ, Count of Porcéan , a general of Emperor Charles V and from 1537 his Grand Bailli and Governor of Hainaut , and his wife Charlotte de Châteaubriant.

Life

In 1514, when his father died, he inherited the county of Porcéan. In 1516 he was appointed Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece . In 1521 he inherited the titles of his uncle Guillaume II. De Croy , including the title of Duke Duca di Sora ed Archi in the Kingdom of Naples and the title of Count of Archducal Comte de Beaumont . In April 1532 Charles V appointed him Spanish-Dutch Margrave of Renty ( Spanish Marqués de Rentín ) and on April 1, 1534 in Genoa Spanish-Dutch Duke of Aarschot and grandees of Spain first class, but denied him at the same time Rank of imperial prince .

This was acquired by his cousin and first wife Anne de Croÿ (* February 22, 1502, † August 6, 1539), whom he married on August 30, 1520, in 1527 as the heir of her father Charles de Croÿ, who was appointed Prince of Chimay in 1486 had been.
