County of Porcéan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The county of Porcéan , also written Porcien , around the main town of Château-Porcien in what is now the Ardennes department, southwest of Mézières , already existed at the time of the Carolingians . Counts have been known since the 10th century . The last of them, Jacques, sold the county in 1302 to Gaucher de Châtillon , the Connétable of France . Four generations later, his descendants died out after they had sold Porcéan to Duke Louis de Valois in 1395 . His successor Charles de Valois sold it to Antoine I. de Croÿ in 1438 .

The Princes of Monaco (see Rainier III. And Albert II. ) Now hold the title of Prince of Château-Porcien.
