Engelbert August Anton Herzog von Arenberg (born May 11, 1824 in the Palais Ducal in Brussels ; † March 28, 1875 at Chateau de Heverlee near Leuven ) was a German civil registry lord .

Life

He was a member of the high European aristocratic family von Arenberg and the son of Duke Prosper Ludwig von Arenberg . He was Duke of Arenberg, Duke of Aarschot , Duke of Meppen and Prince of Recklinghausen . In Germany his possessions were in Prussian and Hanoverian territory. He was married to his cousin Maria-Eleonora Princess von Arenberg since 1868 (* February 19, 1845, † November 28, 1919). With this he had three daughters and two sons.

Among other things, he emerged as a patron . He was the last of the House of Arenberg who still held remnants of former sovereign rights in the Duchy of Arenberg-Meppen . Arenberg was the registrar of his estates. As such, he was a member of the first chamber of the Estates Assembly of the Kingdom of Hanover . After joining Prussia, he was a member of the Westphalian provincial parliament . Since 1861 he belonged to the Prussian manor house .

His nephew Philipp von Arenberg (1848–1906) worked as cathedral chapter in Eichstätt .
