Family origin

The early history of the family is presented by Père Anselme and Courcelles in their works, although both of them largely dispense with citing sources.

Aymon and Elisabeth - Courcelles continued - had several sons. Hugues, a son of Jean II from his second marriage, went to Belgium and took over his mother's lands. He founded the branch of the Seigneur d'Antoing and Comtes or Prince d'Épinoy and Duc de Joyeuse . Louis II. Was the last Melun as Duc de Joyeuse, he died in 1724. The Viscounts de Gent also emerged from this branch , whose line died out in 1603.
