Rollonids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Rollonids also House Normandy (French: Rollonides or Maison de Normandie ; English: House of Normandy ) are the family of the Norman counts and dukes of Normandy from the beginning of the 10th century and of the kings of England from 1066 to 1135. After death King Henry I usurped the English throne and the Duchy of Normandy to Stephen of Blois . The sex died out in the male line in 1167 with Empress Matilda . The Plantagenet dynasty following the House of Normandy invoked Matilda's inheritance rights. All later English monarchs, including the House of Windsor , which ruled today, descended from the Rollonids.
