Ponthieu (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ponthieu is the family of the Counts of Ponthieu and Montreuil from the middle of the 9th to the end of the 11th century.

history

The first count is Herluin, who appears as a count in 863, after serving as royal missus for Rouen and Ponthieu ten years earlier . The counties of Ponthieu and Montreuil were inherited from father to son for almost 140 years, until the house of Montgommery in the person of Robert de Bellême succeeded through marriage due to a lack of male descendants .
