Emmanuel Kotz
Emmanuel Kotz (born January 31, 1604 , † December 21, 1665 ) was a colonel of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel and city commander of the most important Hessen-Kassel fortresses during the Hessian War .
Between the years 1633 and 1641, Kotz was city commander of the Hessen-Kassel fortress Dorsten under Johann von Geyso and, as the latter, was involved in the defense of Dorsten in 1641 . After the loss of the Dorsten Fortress, he moved with the Hesse-Kassel Army to the territory on the left-hand side of the Rhine- Electorate of Cologne , where he succeeded Duke Eberhard after taking the city of Neuss , which was expanded by Hessen-Kassel into the Lower Rhine headquarters and fortress III. of Württemberg commander of the city. He probably withdrew from the city of Neuss in 1651 with the last Hesse-Kassel troops. When Elector Karl I Ludwig moved to Frankfurt am Main for the election of Emperor in 1658 , a description by Caspar Merian mentions an "Emanuel Kotz von Metzenhofen / secret council / Obrister vnd Oberambtman zu Oppenheim."
