Hexenwind is the fourth album by the Austrian dark metal band Dornenreich , which was released on November 18, 2005, four and a half years after the previous album Her von Welken Nachts . For the first time, an album by the band was released in both a normal edition and a limited digipak version.

Presentation

The cover differs from the previous ones and instead of the previous rather sparse front pictures shows the part of a forest with fog in front of it as well as the band name and the album title. The CD itself is only provided with the album title and the production number.

prehistory

In October 2001 the news got around that a new kind of side project by Dornenreich would appear under the name Hexenwind , in February 2005 it was clear that it would not be a side project but the band's next album.

The titles all come from the Sharrektim sessions 2001/2002, where the songs for the follow-up album Through the Dream were also created.

Track list

  1. From the Source - 2:11
  2. The witch's flaming look - 11:38

  4. From a song that has long since faded away - 4:10
  5. Wake up to dreams who can - 13:13

style

With only five songs, which, however, have a total playing time of over 40 minutes, Hexenwind is the album with the fewest songs.

Musically, the work differs significantly from its predecessors, as the entire musical concept is kept extremely calm and the black metal influences have now completely disappeared, which is also shown by the fact that the guitars are now largely undistorted. In addition, Jochen Stock now almost completely dispenses with the aggressive voice (with the exception of a few soft screams in the background on the second track) and uses the whispering vocals. Thomas Stock sings clearly, as on the previous releases.

criticism

Even before it was released, it was clear that the album would be under the burden of its widely acclaimed predecessor, Her von Welken Nachts , and was therefore received very differently by fans due to the strong musical changes from previous releases. Many fans, who had expected a continuation of the development on the previous album, saw the album as a bitter disappointment. In an interview, Jochen Stock therefore commented on the critical voices that Hexenwind considered untypical for Dornenreich:

"Personally, I am of the opinion that people who were able to internalize Dornenreich's essence for themselves recognize" Hexenwind "as a total Dornenreich album and have never ever expected or even wanted a" Her Von Welken Nights 2 ". Dornenreich albums seem to me in their urgency like a completely autonomous being, they have soul and are only committed to the flow of all being, which excludes repetition. "
