Gottfried I ( Geoffroi I. Béranger ) († November 20, 1008 ) was Duke of Brittany from 992 to 1008.

He was the son of Conan the Crooked and the Ermengarde of Anjou, daughter of Count Gottfried I of Anjou , through whom his first name came into the Breton regent list.

After the death of his father in the second battle of Conquereuil in 992 , Gottfried succeeded him as Count of Rennes . In 994 he defeated the young Count of Nantes , Judicaël , whom he forced to submit. In 995 he then assumed the title of Duke of Brittany. In order to secure his rule in Nantais after the deaths of Judicaël and Bishop Hervé (1004), he had a knight from Rennes chosen as the new bishop of Nantes : Walter II. (Gauthier II.) (1004-1041).

Gottfried I died in 1008 on a pilgrimage back to Rome .

He was married to Havoise of Normandy, a daughter of Duke Richard I of Normandy , with whom he had at least three children:
