Castle Combe market square with the 14th century fountain

In its present form, Castle Combe was built around the market square with the fountain in the 14th century. St. Andrew's Church from the 12th century has been preserved in its original state. Only the bell was renewed / enlarged in the 15th century.

Castle Combe was originally built as a Roman fortress . Then there was a settlement later that was probably never abandoned. Because even the Normans used the geographically favorable location to build a castle. However, this is only preserved as a ruin today.

In the Middle Ages, Castle Combe was an important location for wool production. It is therefore not surprising that one of the small cottages houses a wool museum, also known as Weaver's House .
