Le Puiset (noble family)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Le Puiset was a family belonging to the nobility of northern France.

history

From 1010 you held the vice- county of Chartres , at times also the county of Breteuil . They take their name after the rule of Le Puiset in the Eure-et-Loir department , about halfway between Chartres and Orléans . As castellans (châtelains) of the royal castle, they held such an important position that they practically ruled the entire Beauce , arguing with the Bishop of Chartres and even with their own masters, the Capetians . The main line owned by Breteuil died out in 1226. The branch line with the lordship of Le Puiset and the vice-county of Chartres found its end in 1226 on the Damiette crusade .
