history

In the 19th century sarcophagi from the Merovingian era were discovered in connection with the relocation of the railway line to the municipality , but their exact location was not recorded. A clearly visible moth also indicates a settlement at least since early medieval times.

In the Middle Ages, Catheux owned an important castle which belonged to the County of Breteuil at the beginning of the 12th century ; the rule of Catheux was raised to a barony in the 16th century and joined the Marquisat de Thoix . The place also gets its name from the Picardic word for castle ( cateau ).

Jean Le Féron, one of the leaders of the Jacquerie, comes from Catheux . The castle was destroyed in connection with this uprising. A reconstruction around 1788 was demolished again in 1827.
