William VI. (* before 1096; † probably 1136) was Count of Auvergne and Velay from 1096 . He was the son of Count Robert II and Judith of Melgueil .

Wilhelm had Montferrand fortified with the aim of having a fortress against Aimeri, the bishop of Clermont . The repeated acts of violence that he exercised against the clergy of Clermont in 1122 brought them to King Ludwig VI. who then raised an army to - according to Suger von Saint-Denis - "to avenge the injustice inflicted on the Church on the Auvergnates". The army devastated Limagne , captured Pont-du-Château and finally forced William to give in and give back what he had got.

Four years later he resumed the dispute with the bishop, whereupon Ludwig VI. came and besieged Montferrand. Duke Wilhelm IX. of Aquitaine , feudal lord of the Auvergne, Count Wilhelm came to the aid - with the result that the duke submitted to the king with regard to the land of his count.

William VI. married Emma, daughter of Wilhelm von Évreux and Hadwise de Saint-Ceneri of the Rolloniden family . Your children are:
