Saint-Saëns ([ sɛ'sɑs ], to about 1940-1950 [ sɛ'sɑ ]) is a French municipality with 2391 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy . It belongs to the Arrondissement Dieppe and was the capital of the canton of Saint-Saëns until its dissolution in 2015 , since then it has belonged to the canton of Neufchâtel-en-Bray .

history

During excavations in Saint-Saëns stone tools from the Middle Paleolithic (about 80,000 to 40,000 years before our era) were found. The Le Pucheuil archaeological site was discovered in 1996 when the A28 autoroute was extended . From 1167 to 1791 the Cistercian Abbey of Saint-Saëns was located there .
