history

The area around Dampierre-en-Bray was already inhabited at the time of the Gallic War , in which Gaius Julius Caesar conquered Gaul . Residences from this period can be found in Avesnes-en-Bray , Elbeuf-en-Bray , Ferrières , Gournay-en-Bray , Neuf-Marché and Saint-Clair-sur-Epte .

Dampierre-en-Bray was formed from Dampierre and Beuvreuil. in the Middle Ages the place was ruled by the lords of Dampierre, Rambures and Marigny.

In the 12th century, Mahaut de Marigny and Hugues Le Portier , lord of Rosay-sur-Lieure and vice ruler of Lyons-la-Forêt, married . Enguerran II. Le Portier gave his children the name of his mother: Enguerrand de Marigny , the son of Enguerran II. Le Portier, was born in Lyons-la-Forêt in 1260 and was chamberlain to the French King Philip IV (called the Handsome ). He was hanged in 1315 and buried in the church of Écouis, which he built .

Isabeau de Marigny , the treasurer's daughter, brought the rule of Dampierre to the Auxi family by marriage. His son and grandson were killed in the battle of Azincourt in 1415. His granddaughter, Catherine d'Auxi , Dame von Dampierre and Ecouis, brought the property into the von Rambures family through marriage to David de Rambures because of his wedding; David de Rambures was also killed in Azincourt in 1415. Andrieu (or Adrien or André) of Rambures , the son or grandson of David de Rambures, owned the Rambures fortress near the church of Dampierre in 1450 and was lord of Rambures, Dampierre and Écouis . His grandson sold the Dampierre fief and mansion to Nicolas Bénard .

An entire fiefdom, called the fiefdom of Mar (i) gny , belonged to the castellany of Gournay and was transferred to the Fécamp family through the marriage of Alix de Marigny (sister of Isabeau) to Pierre de Fécamp . Alix's daughter (or granddaughter or great-granddaughter), Marie de Fécamp , transferred the inheritance to William I. de Gamaches , while his granddaughter Blanche , daughter of Wilhelm II. De Gamaches , married Jean de Châtillon-sur-Marne , whose daughter Marie ( Marguerite) was lady of Châtillon and by marriage in 1439 or 1452 gave part of the fief of Marigny to Pierre de Roncherolles , lord of Heuqueville ; the other part of the fief remained in the possession of Gamaches until the revolution .

The parish church in Beuvreuil (later connected to that in Dampierre) belonged to the Abbey of Saint-Germer-de-Fly and was a feudal lordship of the Le Cat family from 1118 .

On January 9, 1965, Dampierre was renamed Dampierre-en-Bray .
