history

A place called Escusium already existed in Roman times. A coin hoard with approx. 100 kg of copper and silver coins from the late Roman period was discovered near the present-day location in 1876. In 1307, the French King Philip IV gave his chamberlain Enguerrand de Marigny the town of Écouis as a gift. He had a collegiate church built between 1310 and 1313 , but was sentenced and executed for actual or alleged offenses under Ludwig X. , Philip's successor. The canons' monastery remained in existence until the eve of the French Revolution .

Attractions

The Notre-Dame-d'Écouis collegiate church founded by Enguerrand de Marigny forms the center of the town.
