Sancourt is a commune of 155 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Eure in the region of Normandy . Sancourt is one of the "seven cities of the Bleu". From the 11th century, the Bleu forest , a section of the Lyons-la-Forêt forest , was cleared . The seven villages of Amécourt , Tierceville , Saint-Denis-le-Ferment , Hébécourt , Heudicourt , Sancourt and Mainneville emerged in the cleared areas .

history

The place name was first mentioned in 1279 as St. Clarus de Saencuria . In 1305 the place name appeared as Sancuria in a royal charter from Philip IV (1268-1314). Ernest Nègre lists the place name as "non-Roman" and quotes Marie-Thérèse Morlet. According to Morlet, the place name is made up of the Germanic name Sagina and the Middle Latin word cortem for 'farm' and therefore means 'farm of Sagina'.

After an official Reformed church had been established in Rouen in 1557 and in Évreux in 1559 , Sancourt and Gisors followed this example. The Protestant church in Sancourt / Gisors existed until the Edict of Nantes was repealed with the Edict of Fontainebleau in 1685.

Culture and sights

Sancourt belongs to the Roman Catholic community Communauté de Mainneville , which is part of the parish of Gisors Vallée d'Epte of the Diocese of Évreux .
