The Pont de Clichy is a bridge over the Seine between Clichy on the right and Asnières-sur-Seine on the left bank. Both places belong to the Hauts-de-Seine department in the greater Paris area in France .

description

The Pont de Clichy is a four-lane road bridge with sidewalks on both sides that leads the two departmental roads D 19 and D 911 over the Seine. In Asnières-sur-Seine they flow into the Rue des Bas. On the Clichy side, Rue Martre (D 19) and Boulevard Jean Jaurès (D 911) lead to the bridge.

The prestressed concrete bridge is constructed as a haunched box girder bridge. It has a total length of 220 meters, with the middle of the three bridge fields having a span of 85 meters.

Right next to it, but at a level several meters higher, the Clichy metro bridge has crossed the Seine since 1980 . The branch of the Paris metro line 13 , which leads to Asnières, runs along it .

history

An arch of the Pont de Clichy in an 1883 photograph

In 1866 the first bridge was built between Clichy and Asnières. It crossed the Seine with three arches as well as the île de Robinson and the île de la Recette , which was also called île des Ravageurs . Only the riverside path between the Seine and the Cimetière des chiens , known as the île des Ravageurs , reminds of these no longer existing islands . The bridge was destroyed again during the Franco-Prussian War .

In 1874 the reconstruction of the bridge was completed under the direction of engineers Beaulieu and Fontages. It again had three arches with spans of 60 m each, which were joined together from cast iron elements at the construction site.

Vincent van Gogh painted several scenes on the Seine in the summer of 1887 that have the Pont de Clichy as their subject or in which it can be seen in the background, for example the Seine with the Pont de Clichy .

This bridge remained in place until 1970 when it was demolished and the islands were also cleared away.

From 1973 to 1975 the Campenon Bernard company (now part of the VINCI group ) built today's prestressed concrete bridge. The client was the Ministère de l'Urbanisme, du Logement et des Transports , and the client was the Direction Départementale de l'Equipement des Hauts-de-Seine . In 1980 the metro bridge was completed next to it.

Individual evidence

  1. The name Pont de Clichy is used in specialist literature from the mid-19th century for a railway bridge that crosses the former Route d'Asnières diagonally across the Paris - St. Germain railway shortly before the Asnières railway bridge and also in 1852 as a wrought iron box girder bridge was renewed by the Ernest Goüin company according to the plans of Eugène Flachat.
