Thil-Manneville is a French municipality with 608 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Seine-Maritime in the region Normandy . It belongs to the canton of Luneray .

geography

Thil-Manneville is located in the Pays de Caux , eleven kilometers southwest of Dieppe and six kilometers north of the canton capital Bacqueville-en-Caux , between the neighboring communities of Gueures in the northwest, Ambrumesnil in the northeast and Hermanville in the south. The Vienne , a tributary of the Saâne , flows west of the town center through the municipality. The hamlet of Manneville belongs to the municipality.

history

The place name part Thil is derived from the Latin word Tilia for " linden tree ". Le Thil was first mentioned as Tylia in 1240. The parish Thil-Manneville belonged from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution (1789-1799) the Monastery Mortemer in Lyons-la-Forêt . Worldly owners of the place were the Mortemart family .

Attractions

The Saint-Sulpice church stands on the banks of the Vienne. An original church was built in the 13th century. The current building was erected on the same site in the 16th century. It is made almost entirely of sandstone , and tufa limestone has been incorporated into the walls of the choir , as can be found on the banks of the Saâne and Scie rivers . At the altar of the church you can still find the coat of arms of the Mortemart family, with the title Marquis de Manneville et du Thil, on the remains of a liter funéraire (funeral ribbon) that was painted both outside and inside the building.

The Vienne valley near Thil-Manneville is officially classified as a Site Inscrit (natural monument).
