County of Sancerre
The county of Sancerre with the main town Sancerre was northeast of Bourges . It emerged as an independent domain when, after the death of Count Theobald IV of Blois , (Theobald II of) Champagne etc., the property of his eldest son Heinrich I was divided between himself and his brothers.
Heinrich took over the Champagne himself, leaving Blois and Chartres to his brother Theobald V and Sancerre to the youngest brother Stephan I.
