Troyes county

In the 10th century there was a county Troyes with the main town Troyes in the possession of the Count House Vermandois , a line of the Carolingians .

Troyes came to the House of Blois by inheritance , as did the County of Meaux ( Theobald I , Count of Blois , † 975, had been married to a daughter of Count Heribert II of Vermandois). By amalgamation of the two counties, Troyes and Meaux became part of the county of Champagne , of which Troyes was also the capital.
