Heribert the Younger (Troyes)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heribert the Younger (* probably 950; † January 28, 995 ) from the House of Carolingians was Count of Meaux and Troyes from 980 to 988. He was the son of Robert von Vermandois , Count of Meaux and Troyes, and Adelheid of Burgundy.

The death of his father in 967 did not bring him his inheritance, as his uncle Heribert the old took possession of the counties. It was only his death in 980/984 that allowed him to succeed him.

As a partisan of King Lothar , he took part in his campaigns in Upper Lorraine and then took over responsibility for the imprisoned Count Gottfried von Verdun , who then became known as "Gottfried the Prisoner", and in 987, after Hugo Capet's accession to the throne , against the Assignment of property was released. In this election he stood - like his cousin Odo I von Blois - on the side of the pretender Karl of Lower Lorraine .

Heribert's wife's name and origin are not known, only that she was his wife in 959. He was succeeded by his only son, Stephan (Étienne) , after his childless death in 1019/1021 Meaux and Troyes went to Odo II of Blois , his second cousin, although he was not his closest relative.
