From 888/889 to 1019/1021 the county of Meaux with the main town of Meaux was in the hands of the Count's House of Vermandois , a line of the Carolingians ; the counts are:

Theobald I († 978 ) Count of Blois , married Liutgard of Vermandois , daughter of Count Heribert II. , Heiress of Count Meaux and County Troyes , which are later summarized under the name Champagne .
