William I (Sancerre)
Wilhelm († 1218 ) was a Count of Sancerre from the House of Blois . He was a son of Count Stephan I von Sancerre and Mathilde von Donzy. His younger brother was Stephan von Sancerre, lord of Châtillon-sur-Loing and later grand cupbearer of France .
Wilhelm was married three times. First from around 1203 with Denis de Deols, mistress of Châteauroux , as her third husband. His second wife was Marie de Charenton with whom he had the son Ludwig . His third wife was Eustachie de Courtenay, daughter of Peter I of Courtenay and granddaughter of King Louis VI. of France .
Wilhelm fought together with his brother in the Battle of Bouvines in the right wing of the French under the Duke of Burgundy in 1214 . In 1217 he went on a trip to Greece accompanied by his brother-in-law, Peter II of Courtenay , who had been appointed Emperor of the Latin Empire of Constantinople . In Epirus both were captured by the Byzantine despot Theodoros I Angelos , in whose dungeon they died a little later.
