Jean IV. De Melun

Jean IV. De Melun (* around 1396 ; † February 15, 1484 ) was Burgrave of Ghent , Viscount de Melun , Lord of Antoing , Épinoy and Wingels as well as Konnetabel of Flanders. He is buried in Mons in the choir of Notre-Dame du Val-des-Écoliers .

Life

He comes from the Melun family and became Viscount of Melun and Lord (Seigneur) of Antoing, Épinoy and Wingels in 1415.

In 1410 Jean was appointed Burgrave of Ghent and later Konnetabel of Flanders . His close relationship with the Burgundian Duke Philip the Good earned him the election of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1432 .

family

Jean was the son of Hugues de Melun, Seigneur d'Antoing and d'Épinoy († 1406) and Béatrix de Beaussart († 1419) and he married

I. on October 28, 1419 Jeanne de Luxembourg († 1420), daughter of Jean II. De Luxembourg .

II. In 1421 Jeanne d'Abbeville, heiress of Dompvast and Hallencourt († 1480), daughter of Edmond d'Abbeville.

From the second marriage he had the following children:

  1. Jean V († October 25, 1513), Konnetabel of Flanders; ⚭ Marie von Saarbrücken-Roucy, zu Bailleul († after January 2, 1511), daughter of Robert I of Saarbrücken-Commercy, Count of Roucy
  2. Philippotte († 1450); ⚭ 1441 Thibaut de Luxemburg-Ligny , Lord of Fiennes († 1477).
  3. Hélène († July 25, 1473); ⚭ 1454 Charles d'Artois, comte d'Eu († 1472).
