Donatus Djagom

Donatus Djagom SVD (born May 10, 1919 in Bilas , Manggarai ; † November 29, 2011 in Ende ) was an Indonesian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop from Ende on Flores in Indonesia.

Life

Donatus Djagom joined the Congregation of the Divine Word Missionaries in and studied philosophy at the seminary of St. Paul Ledalero at the University of Agder . After the Second World War he continued his theological studies at the Steyler Seminary in Teteringen , Netherlands , where he was ordained a priest on August 28, 1949 . Donatus then continued his studies at the SVD-run University of San Carlos in Cebu , Philippines . He was the principal of SMAK Syuradikara Ende-Flores High School and the deputy provincial of his order.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 19, 1968 Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ende . The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Indonesia , Archbishop Salvatore Pappalardo , donated him episcopal ordination on June 11, 1969 ; Co- consecrators were Willem van Bekkum SVD, Bishop of Ruteng , and Antoine Hubert Thijssen SVD, Bishop of Larantuka . His motto was Praedicamus Christum Crucifixum (“We proclaim Christ as crucified”) (1, Corinthians 1.23). He was the first native speaking archbishop of Flores.

On February 23, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. He lived in his hometown of Bilas near Ranggu, Manggarai, since 1996, and from 2010 in the monastery of the Sisters of the Congregation of the Imitation of Jesus (CIJ) . Donatus Djagom was buried in the cathedral of Ende.
