The stream rises in Trier-Tarforst east of the Heidenkopf (383 m) and then forms the boundary between Kasel and Waldrach before it flows into Kasel.

The towns of Oberbenningen and Niederbenningen were on the Benninger Bach. Oberbenningen existed until the Thirty Years War , Niederbenningen today belongs to Kasel.
