The University of San Carlos (USC) ( Latin Universitas Sancti Caroli ; Tagalog Unibersidad ng San Carlos ) is a private Catholic university founded in 1595 in Cebu City , Philippines .

The college was founded on August 1, 1595 as Colegio de San Ildefonso by the Jesuits and operated as Colegio de San Carlos from 1783 ; In 1948 the college was granted university rights. Since 1935 the college has been run by the Steyler Missionaren (SVD).

The university consists of eight faculties and 27 departments:
