history

The history of the university began on January 19, 1954, when a primary school was opened in Sibalom. However, the building was destroyed by the Typhoon Delta in 1956 and the local authorities were unable to support the reconstruction. The representative responsible for the district Tobias Fornier initiated the establishment of the Antique School of Arts and Trades via Republic Law 857, so that state funds could also be applied for for the reconstruction. The then mayor of Sibalom Santiago A. Lotilla took up the initiative and made land available on which the buildings could be erected. In the 1960s and 70s, the school's training programs expanded and the school became known for its research on ceramic materials.

The next big step took place on November 14, 1982 when the school was given college status and named the Polytechnic State College of Antique. In the 1990s, the two satellite campuses in Hamtic and Tibiao were founded by taking over the educational institutions there into the organizational structure of the college. After the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the first school, the college was granted university status.
