The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), ( Filipino : Politeknikong Unibersidad ng Pilipinas ) is a state university in the Philippines and is considered a major educational institution in the administrative regions of Central Luzon , Metro Manila , MIMAROPA , CALABARZON and the Bicol region . The main campus of the university is located on the A. Mabini campus on Anonas Street, Sta. Mesa in Manila . It is the largest state university in the Philippines. Around 70,000 students enroll at the university each semester. Several hundred foreign students study at various locations of the university, for example from the People's Republic of China , Singapore , Indonesia , Cambodia , Myanmar , Tanzania , Nigeria and Ghana .

Faculties

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines houses various faculties , these are divided into higher education and technical school areas, as well as colleges for vocational training . These are the College of Accountancy and Finance, College of Architecture and Fine Arts, College of Arts and Letters, College of Business Administration, College of Communication, College of Computer and Information Sciences, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Human Kinetics , College of Law, College of Nutrition and Food Science, College of Public Administration, College of Science, College of Social Sciences and Development, College of Tourism, Hospitality and Transportation Management, The Institute of Technology (ITech), The PUP Open University, Graduate School and the PUP Laboratory High School.

Locations

history

The university's history began on October 19, 1904 when Manila Business School (MBS) opened. In 1908 it was renamed the Philippine School of Commerce (PSC). From 1933 to 1946 it was merged with the Philippine Normal School (PNS) and in 1952 it was given college status, the Philippine College of Commerce (PCC). The university was a center of the left-wing First Quarter Storm Movement from January to March 1970. The college was given university status on April 1, 1978, so that the Polytechnic University of the Philippines could be opened. In 1989, the concept of the Open University on the Taguig campus was researched for the first time in the Philippines, and in 1990 it was introduced at another six locations, where distance learning courses are also offered. The Information and Communications Technology Center (PUP ICT Center) was inaugurated in 2000.
