Mariveles is a Philippine municipality in the province of Bataan . On October 4, 1646, the last of the five naval battles of La Naval de Manila , which went down in the history of the Philippines as the victory over the Netherlands, took place in the waters off the municipality .

Mariveles is located in a bay on the southern tip of the Bataan Peninsula. The municipality is approximately 173 km from Manila and is accessible from there via the North Luzon Expressway , Gapan-Olongapo Road and Roman Highway . Mariveles is also connected to Manila by a ferry, the journey time is around 40 minutes. The municipality has a land area of 153.9 km², which corresponds to 12% of the area of the province of Bataan. 69% of this is pasture land, 19% forest and 6% other agricultural land. The remaining 6% are settlements and industrial areas.
Population development
The annual growth rate of the population is 4.71%, which is twice as high as in the province of Bataan. There is a campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines in the community .

The main agricultural products are rice , mangoes , legumes , vegetables and coffee . The main fishery products are horse mackerel , grouper , blue mussels and sea ear . Basalt and granite deposits and the production of bamboo products are also important. The country's first economic zone (formerly Bataan free trade zone ) was established in Mariveles .
