Abucay is a Filipino municipality in the province of Bataan 119 km northwest of Manila .

Attractions

  • Sto. Domingo Abucay Church . The spiritual care of Abucay was entrusted to the Dominicans in 1588 . On June 23, 1647, a violent battle between Dutch invaders and defensive forces of the Pampango took place on the grounds of the church . Almost 200 pampangos were killed, forty others were captured along with the Spanish Alcalde Mayor (Lord Mayor) and two Dominican priests. The present church was badly damaged by an earthquake on September 16, 1852. The church is one of the oldest in the Philippines
  • Tomas Pinpin Monument (Baranggay Ibayo). It was built in memory of a famous Filipino printer. The monument stands on the grounds of the Tomas Pinpin Memorial Elementary School .
  • Maria Canon statue (Sibul, Abucay). Memorial to the Japanese soldiers who fell during World War II.
  • Pasukulan Falls (West Abucay). A waterfall in a valley in Mount Natib .
  • Sibul Spring (West Abucay). A spring with sulphurous water.
  • Bataan National Park in the west of the municipality

education

The Colegio de San Juan de Letran Bataan has been located in Abucay since 1979. It was initially set up as a branch of the mother house in Intramuros and has been an independent private school of the Dominican Order since 1986 .
