Philippine Normal University
The Philippine Normal University (PNU), ( Filipino Pamantasang Normal ng Pilipinas ) is a state university in the Philippines and is considered a major educational institution in the administrative region of Metro Manila , Cagayan Valley , Caraga and the Western Visayas . In the second semester of 2011, 12,959 students enrolled at the university.
Locations
It has four other locations in the following municipalities:
- the university's main campus is on Taft Avenue at the intersection of Ayala Boulevard in Manila , across from the National Museum of the Philippines and Rizal Park
- PNU Isabela Campus is located in Barangay Aurora in Alicia , Isabela Province
- the PNU Cadiz campus is located on Boy Albert Street in Cadiz City , Negros Occidental Province
- the PNU Quezon campus is located in Lopez , Quezon Province
- the PNU Agusan campus is located in Prosperidad , Agusan del Sur province
Faculties
The Philippine Normal University houses five different faculties , these are divided into higher education and technical school areas, as well as in vocational training in colleges . These are the College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Science and the College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature.
history
The history of the university began on January 21, 1901 when the Philippine Normal School (PNS) was opened in Manila. In 1928 the Junior College was opened, it offered courses on the second education path. In 1949 the school was converted into the Philippine Normal College (PNC), offering courses in Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE), Elementary Education and Home Economics. In the 1970s, the Bachelor of Science in Education courses were expanded and the first courses with the final goal of Doctor of Education and Doctor of Philosophy began. The college continued to expand its training programs, so that the university was declared a Center of Excellence (CENTREX) for English, Filipino and values education by the state education authority. Dictionaries in Tagalog / Filipino and other languages have been developed. On December 26, 1991, the college was granted university status.
