Visayas State University

The Visayas State University (VSU) is located in the province of Leyte in the Philippines . It is considered a major educational institution in the Eastern Visayas administrative region . The university has five locations that cover a total area of ​​over 15 km². The main campus is promoted by the Department of Tourism as a sight on Leyte Island . The university is an internationally renowned research institute in the fields of agriculture and forestry . In the second semester of 2011, 9,124 students enrolled at the university. It is considered to be one of the three central universities in the Philippines in both research and training areas; the other two are Central Luzon State University (CLSU) and Central Mindanao University (CMU).

Locations

The university is divided into five locations in the following municipalities :

  • The Visayas State University headquarters is located in Barangay Pangasugan, Baybay City , and covers an area of ​​14.79 km², which includes a rainforest area of ​​approximately 5.74 km² around Mount Pangasugan. There are 188 buildings on site, which also include the Philippine Root Crop Research and Training Center (PhilRootcrops), National Abaca Research Center (NARC), National Coconut Research Center (NCRC) - Visayas, Farm and Resource Management Institute (FARMI), Philippine Carabao Center (PCC), and Agricultural Training Institute - National Training Center (ATI-NTC). The campus is located 5 miles north of downtown Baybay City and 21 miles south of Ormoc City .
  • VSU-Isabel is located in the municipality of Isabel
  • VSU-Alang Alang Campus is located in the Alangalang municipality
  • VSU-Villaba Campus is located in the municipality of Villaba
  • VSU-Tolosa Campus is located in the municipality of Tolosa

Faculties

The Visayas State University houses ten different faculties , these are divided into higher education and technical schools, as well as colleges for vocational training . There are also three institutes and a general school in the university's educational system. These are College of Agriculture, College of Forestry, College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Engineering and Agri-Industries, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Fisheries (VSU-Tolosa Campus), College of Agri-Industrial Technology ( VSU-Isabel Campus), College of Environmental and Agricultural Technology (VSU-Alangalang Campus), College of Education and Agricultural Technology (VSU-Villaba Campus), Institute of Human Kinetics, Institute of Tropical Ecology, Institute for Strategic Research and Development Studies and the graduate school.

history

The history of the university began on June 2, 1924 when the Baybay Agricultural School opened. This was renamed the Baybay National Agricultural School (BNAS) in 1938. On June 19, 1960, the school's status was increased when it was renamed the Visayas Agricultural College (VAC). The college developed rapidly and new training programs were incorporated into the college's educational system, so on May 24, 1974 the college was renamed the Visayas State College of Agriculture (ViSCA). In 1999 and 2000, the Isabel National Agricultural and Vocational School (INAVS), Alangalang Agro-Industrial School, Leyte National College of Agriculture, Science and Technology in Villaba and the Daniel Z. Romualdez Memorial School of Fisheries in Tolosa were included in the organizational system of Colleges integrated. The university was granted university status on August 11, 2001 and Leyte State University (LSU) was established. This was renamed on April 27, 2007 to today's name Visayas State University.
