Subsequently, the first student association in the Philippines was founded at the school, the Jaro Industrial School Republic. This published the one newspaper: the Central Echo, in which the students could find out about news, but also about grievances and express their own opinion. In 1915 the first grammar school courses were opened at the school and lasted two years. In 1923 the status of the school was increased with the opening of Central Philippine College. In 1936 the senior college was opened and in 1940 the first degrees with the academic degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Theology and Bachelor of Religious Education could be recorded. During World War II, the college buildings were completely destroyed and some of the academic staff were killed, including 11 missionaries. After the end of the war, the rebuilding and reconstruction of the buildings began with the help of donations from the Baptist community in the USA. On April 1, 1953, the college was granted university status. In 1966 the first Filipino rector of the university, this was Dr. Rex D. Drilon. In 1968 the American Baptist Foreign Mission Society transferred management to the Filipino Corporation of Central Philippine University.
