Provinces of the Cagayan Valley region

The region is mainly located in a large valley between the two mountain ranges Sierra Madre and the Cordillera Central . In the south rise the Caraballo Mountains , in which the river Cagayan of the same name has its main source. As the longest river in the district, it flows through a long and wide valley towards the north, which gave the region its name. Other larger rivers are the Abulug and the Rio Chico . In the valley of the Magat River , in the southwest of the region, lies the Magat reservoir , whose hydropower plant has an output of 381 megawatts.

The administrative area of the region includes the Batanes archipelago and the Babuyan Islands in the Luzon Strait . The eastern coast of the region lies on the Philippine Sea . In the region are the five active volcanoes Camiguin de Babuyanes , Didicas , Babuyan Claro , Smith Volcano and the Cagua .
