history

Since Nueva Vizcaya became a province, the culture and customs of the early settlers have always been reflected in history. The first settlers included the Ilongot , the Igorot , the Ifugaos , the Isinay and the Gaddang . The immigration of other peoples from the neighboring areas led to a higher population density, which was divided into different cultures.

In 1607 Dominicans came to Nueva Vizcaya to evangelize the people in the hinterland. In 1702 a monastery was built in Santa Clara, today's Barangay (district) of the municipality of Aritao .

Based on the formal formation of the province of Isabela in May 1856, the current area of Nueva Vizcaya was created, although some changes were made later. Much of the north was left to the current northern provinces. In 1908 further parts in the northwest were ceded to the Ifugao province . In 1971 the province also had to give up the province of Quirino , which had been subordinate to that date .
