Coordinates: 18 ° 0 ′  N , 121 ° 18 ′  O Apayao is an inland province in the north of the Philippines . She belongs to the third income bracket of the provinces in the Philippines. The population is 119,184 (August 1, 2015 census) people who live in seven municipalities and 133 barangays .

It belongs to the administrative region of Cordillera , the capital of the province is Kabugao . In the east and north it borders on the province of Cagayan , in the west on Ilocos Norte , in the south on Abra and Kalinga . The province is located in the northern part of the Cordillera Central . The topography is very mountainous due to the mountain location. The high mountain ranges in the south of the province are separated by deeply cut valleys and flatten to the north. Most of the province is located in the water catchment area of the Abulug River , which is also known as Apayao.

The province was created in 1995 through the division of the previous Kalinga-Apayao province.
