Coordinates: 17 ° 36 ' N , 120 ° 42' E Abra is an inland province in the Cordillera Administrative Region in the Philippines . The population is 241,160 (census August 1, 2015) who live in 27 municipalities. The capital of the province is Bangued .
geography
Abra is located in the northwestern part of the Cordillera Central , the northernmost mountain range on the island of Luzon . Its neighboring provinces are Ilocos Norte in the north, Ilocos Sur in the west, the Mountain Province in the southeast, Kalinga and Apayao in the east. The largest river is the Abra , its source is on Mount Data in the Benguet province . Cassamata Hill National Park lies in the west of the province .
history
The province was founded in 1846 by the Spanish colonial administration as a military administrative district and was previously part of the province of Ilocos Sur. After the Philippine Revolution , on August 29, 1901, the first civil administration was installed by the now American colonial administration. In February 1905 the province again became a sub-province of the Ilocos Sur province before Abra finally became a separate province again in March 1917.
