Coordinates: 18 ° 12 ′ N , 120 ° 42 ′ E Ilocos Norte is a province of the Philippines in the Ilocos region on the main island of Luzon . The capital of the province is Laoag . The province is bordered by Cagayan and Apayao in the east and Abra and Ilocos Sur in the south. To the west of Ilocos Norte is the South China Sea , to the north the Luzon Strait and to the east the province borders on the Philippine Cordillera . The current governor has been the daughter of the former dictator Ferdinand Marcos since 2010. Ilokano is mainlyspokenin the area.
Ilocos Norte is not only known as the birthplace of former President Ferdinand Marcos, but also for its sandy beaches, such as Pagudpud , which is located in the Kalbario-Patapat National Park .

Attractions
In the municipality of Paoay is the old Spanish Church of St. Augustine , which the World Heritage Site of UNESCO belongs (in addition to three other Baroque churches). The Lake Paoay of the National Park has been designated.
