history
In 1571, the Spanish conquistador Juan de Salcedo was sent by Legazpi to explore the island of Luzon . This would later have a significant impact on the history of Camarines Norte. After the expedition had put down the residents of today's Taytay and Cainta , de Salcedo marched on with his men and crossed today's provinces of Laguna and Tayabas . He visited the rich and, as the locals called them because of the gold mines there, gold-laden places Mambulao and Paracale .
When Francisco de Sande took over the post of Governor General of Legazpi, the influence of the Spaniards in the region began to consolidate. So he established a Spanish garrison in Naga , from where the area could be controlled and protected from Chinese and Muslim pirates.
Besides Mambulao, Capalonga and Paracale, Indan and Daet were already existing and flourishing local settlements at this time. Paracale, on the other hand, was the most sought-after and flourishing town in this area due to its gold mines.
The area was predominantly inhabited by members of the Tagalog ethnic group , while the rest of the inhabitants living here belonged to the Visayan group. Of the immigrant peoples, the majority are migrants from Mauban , Quezon Province.
The original province of Bicol was established in 1573 at the time of Juan de Salcedo. From it emerged the province of Camarines in 1636, which was divided into the two provinces of Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur around 1829 . For a short time from 1854 to 1857 both were reunited to form the province of Ambos Camarines ( Ambos is the Spanish word for "both"), but separated again after three years. In 1893 there was a repeated amalgamation under the name Ambos Camarines, which was finally canceled in 1919. On March 3, 1919, General FB Harrison and the Philippine Legislature finally decided with Law No. 2809 to establish the Camarines Norte Province. The province consisted of the current 12 places Basud, Capalonga, Daet, Jose Panganiban, Labo, Mercedes, Paracale, San Lorenzo Ruiz, San Vicente, Santa Elena, Talisay and Vinzons.
climate
Camarines Norte belongs to the second climate category, which is characterized by the fact that there is no pronounced season. The period between October and January, on the other hand, is characterized by heavier rainfall, mainly along and near the eastern coast, while the northern part is spared by the mountain ranges. The Camarines Norte area stretches along the main typhoon belt, which means that the province is often hit by strong storms between August and October, with typhoons hitting the Bicol peninsula since April.
The average rainfall in 2000 was 389.58 mm. A mean temperature of 27.3 ° C was determined here. The coolest months are January and February, the warmest is May.
