Mercedes is a Filipino township in the east of Camarines Norte Province , on the coast of San Miguel Bay .
Originally the place was called Barra and was a Baranggay of the provincial capital Daet . In 1948 it became an independent municipality with an area of 92.14 km². The name was named after Doña Mercedes; a rich woman who devoted her life to helping the community, especially the poor.
