The Kalbario Patapat National Park is located on the Pasaleng Bay, on the border of the provinces of Ilocos region and Cagayan Valley in the north of the island of Luzon in the Philippines . It was established on April 20, 2007 with the entry into force of Decree 1275 on an area of 3,800 hectares. This area forms the core zone of the park, which is enclosed by a 1937 hectare buffer zone. The national park is one of the youngest nature reserves since the NIPAS law came into force and is listed as a nature park by the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau , PAWB . It is easily accessible via a national trunk road in the north of the island of Luzon. The distance to the provincial capital Laoag City is 72 km, in the south, and to Aparri about 185 km in the east.

The national park stretches along the coast and the very steep and rugged coastal mountains of northern Luzon. White beaches, sand dunes and rock formations alternate along the coast and there are also good diving spots.

In the flatter part of the inland forests grow with a large population of old trees, which are dominated by trees from the wing fruit family . In the mountainous part of the national park, this lowland forest turns into a mountain rainforest . Some smaller areas are also used for agriculture.

In the national park there are populations of the blood-winged fruit pigeon ( Ptilinopus marchei ), the spotted fruit pigeon ( Ducula carola ), the striped hoot ( Bubo philippensis ), the cooked pitta ( Pitta kochi ), the Manila parrot finch ( Erythrura viridifacies ) and Emberiza sulpharturata , an Ammeriza sulpharturata , available. The forest areas of the national park are the main source of fresh water for the surrounding communities and agricultural areas.

A hydroelectric power station has also been installed in the Pagudpud municipality to generate electrical energy .
